Major German airports experienced widespread paralysis today, Monday, due to a 24-hour warning strike called by the German labor union (Verdi) to demand higher wages.
According to the union's media office, the strike affects Germany's most important airports, including (Frankfurt), (Munich), and (Stuttgart) in the south and south-central regions, as well as (Cologne-Bonn) and (Dortmund) in the west, and (Hamburg) and (Bremen) in the north.
This strike comes after failed wage negotiations with employer associations and the private sector, and just days before the start of a new round of talks.
For its part, the (German Airports Association) stated in a press release that the strike would lead to the cancellation of approximately 3,400 round-trip flights to and from these airports, disrupting the travel plans of nearly half a million passengers.
According to the association, German airports handle 6,000 flight movements daily, in addition to 3,000 flights passing through German airspace.
