The Permanent Delegation of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva affirmed on Monday Kuwait's steadfast commitment to supporting persons with disabilities, particularly women and girls, by adopting a comprehensive system aimed at achieving justice, equality, and enhancing their role as active contributors to society. This was stated in a speech delivered by the Second Secretary of Kuwait's Permanent Delegation to the United Nations, Nada Al-Dhaib, during the interactive dialogue session with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities, as part of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Al-Dhaib emphasized that Kuwait is one of the leading countries in supporting disability issues at both the legislative and community levels. She noted that Law No. (8) of 2010 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities represents a milestone in national legislation, as it provides guarantees and services covering education, health, employment, and social care.
Al-Dhaib stressed that Kuwait continues to achieve tangible accomplishments in empowering persons with disabilities through policies aligned with international standards, reaffirming the country's commitment to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its dedication to cooperating with relevant international mechanisms.
She also explained that Kuwait's hosting of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities, Heba Hagras, last December, is part of efforts to enhance cooperation with relevant international organizations and bodies.
In this context, Al-Dhaib affirmed Kuwait's commitment to promoting women's rights in various fields, particularly for women with disabilities.
