The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasizes the importance of enhancing trade relations between his country and the United Kingdom..

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati emphasized on Tuesday the importance of strengthening trade and investment relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom. He pointed out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached approximately 5 billion pounds sterling (equivalent to 6.4 billion US dollars) last year.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamer Khalaf, stated in a press release that during his meeting with British Member of Parliament and the UK’s Trade Envoy to Egypt, Yasmin Qureshi, Minister Abdel Ati expressed his aspiration for further joint efforts to maximize the potential of bilateral economic relations and attract more British investments to Egypt.

In this context, Abdel Ati reviewed the steps taken by the Egyptian government to improve the business environment, enhance the investment climate, and address obstacles faced by foreign investors. He stressed the importance Egypt places on the role of the private sector in economic activity.

He also highlighted the importance of building on the Egypt-UK Partnership Agreement signed in December 2020, as well as the outcomes of the Egypt-UK Partnership Council held in January, during which it was agreed to resolve any outstanding issues to facilitate the flow of exports to both the Egyptian and British markets.

The Foreign Minister noted Egypt's keenness to enhance cooperation with the UK in other areas, particularly in the field of higher education.

He also emphasized that Egypt remains one of the top tourist destinations for British citizens and expressed his hope to work towards increasing the flow of tourism to even higher levels.
