Fahid Al-Ajmi, President of the Kuwait Winter Games Club, announced on Saturday that Kuwait's national ice hockey team ("The Blues") is undergoing intensive preparations for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV, scheduled to take place in Armenia from April 13 to 19. The tournament, supervised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), will feature six national teams.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during the team's training camp in Al Ain, UAE, Al-Ajmi emphasized the players' high morale and determination to compete at their best level, aiming to clinch the championship title. The winning team will earn promotion to Division III in the next edition of the tournament.
The Kuwaiti team recently played a high-level friendly match against the UAE league champions, Dibbs, which ended in an exciting 5-5 draw. They are set to face two more top-tier UAE clubs before concluding their training camp on April 11.
From the UAE, the team will travel directly to Armenia, where they will begin their campaign against Uzbekistan, followed by matches against Indonesia, host nation Armenia, Malaysia, and finally Iran.
Al-Ajmi praised the players' focus during training and warm-up matches, expressing optimism about their performance in the tournament. "The team is ready to deliver outstanding results in this important sporting event," he said.
He also extended gratitude to:
Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture & Minister of State for Youth Affairs
The Public Sports Authority for their unwavering support in facilitating the team's participation
The UAE Ice Hockey Federation for their warm hospitality and assistance in organizing a successful training camp
With strong preparations and national support, Kuwait’s ice hockey team is poised to make its mark in the championship, aiming for promotion to a higher competitive tier.
