The Kuwait national ice hockey team will launch its journey in the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV (Yerevan, Armenia) tomorrow, Sunday, with a high-stakes opening match against Uzbekistan on the tournament's first day. The event, held in the capital Yerevan, features six teams and will run over seven days.

Kuwait Fully Prepared for the Tournament

Fahid Al-Ajmi, head of Kuwait’s delegation and chairman of the Winter Games Club, told KUNA (Kuwait News Agency) on Saturday that the "Blue Hockey" team is fully prepared for the championship, which is officially supervised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The winner of the tournament will earn promotion to Division III in the next edition of the World Championship.

Al-Ajmi explained that the Kuwaiti team underwent intensive training sessions at the club’s arena before holding a 10-day training camp in Al Ain, UAE. During the camp, they played three friendly matches against top-tier teams in the UAE Professional League, delivering a promising performance. He praised the players' commitment and seriousness during training and preparatory matches, saying it "bodes well for a strong tournament showing."

Tournament Schedule

According to the IIHF’s round-robin format, Kuwait will face:

  • Indonesia on Monday

  • Host nation Armenia on Wednesday

  • Malaysia on Thursday

  • Iran on Saturday (final day)

Al-Ajmi emphasized that the players are determined to start strong with a win in their opening match to gain momentum. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver an outstanding performance.

Al-Ajmi also thanked the General Sports Authority for its tremendous support, helping the team overcome all obstacles and ensuring proper preparation for this important international competition.
