Brazilian club Botafogo secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over France's Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Friday in their second Group Stage match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, held at Rose Bowl Stadium in California, USA.
With this crucial win, Botafogo moved closer to the knockout stages, topping Group 2 with 6 points, while PSG remained on 3 points after their previous win over Seattle Sounders.
The only goal of the match came in the 36th minute when Igor Jesus fired a powerful shot following a clever assist from Jefferson Savarino. The strike took a deflection off PSG’s defense, wrong-footing Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and finding the back of the net.
Despite relentless attacks from the French giants, Botafogo’s defense held firm, denying PSG an equalizer and securing a historic victory.
The tournament continues until July 13, with Group 2 also featuring Atlético Madrid (Spain) and Seattle Sounders (USA).
