Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Friday that he had issued directives to arrest anyone throwing stones or other projectiles at immigration officers or other security personnel. The order comes amid periodic clashes between law enforcement and protesters opposed to Trump's immigration policies.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I watched in disbelief as thugs violently pelted ICE and Border Patrol officers with rocks and bricks (...) Therefore, I have directed Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Border Czar Tom Homan to instruct all ICE, DHS, or any law enforcement officers who are targeted with rocks, bricks, or any form of assault to stop their vehicles and arrest these thugs using whatever means necessary."

He added: "I am giving ICE full authorization to protect themselves just as they protect the public. I never want to see a law enforcement vehicle attacked again! Immediate arrest and detention are hereby authorized."

Trump's hardline immigration policies have frequently sparked confrontations between security forces and protesters. Last month in Los Angeles, demonstrations escalated into violent clashes and vandalism incidents.
