The Egyptian Foreign Minister reiterated his country's rejection of unilateral measures in the Nile Basin..

 Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm stance on the importance of cooperation among Nile Basin countries in accordance with international law principles, while strongly rejecting unilateral measures that violate these established rules.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that these positions were emphasized during Dr. Abdelatty's meeting with Uganda's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello, as part of his official visit to the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

During the discussions, Minister Abdelatty:

  • Stressed the necessity of respecting international law regarding water security to safeguard the rights of all Nile Basin nations

  • Expressed Egypt's readiness to support Uganda through developmental project financing mechanisms Egypt has established in Southern Nile Basin countries

  • Highlighted Egypt's desire to enhance technical and economic cooperation with Uganda, particularly in investment, development, infrastructure, and energy sectors

  • Noted potential for increasing Egyptian exports to the Ugandan market

The Egyptian minister emphasized that Egyptian companies possess extensive experience in implementing developmental projects across Africa, especially in infrastructure, water management, and pharmaceutical industries.

Dr. Abdelatty underscored the deep historical ties between Egypt and Uganda, calling for strengthened political and economic cooperation amid regional challenges.

The discussions also addressed developments in Somalia and Sudan, with the Egyptian minister emphasizing the importance of preserving these nations' unity and stability while supporting their national institutions.

During his visit, Minister Abdelatty met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, delivering a written message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi concerning bilateral relations, Nile River issues, and water security.

The visit concluded with Egypt presenting Uganda an agricultural grant comprising farming equipment and light transport vehicles to support a local NGO working with youth and small-scale farmers.
