Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and her German counterpart Annalena Baerbock agreed on Monday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security and economic security during their meeting in Tokyo.
Security & Defense:
Both ministers committed to advancing security dialogue, including cybersecurity, defense equipment, and technology collaboration.
They agreed to hold the next "2+2" meeting (foreign and defense ministers) at the earliest opportunity.
Economic Security:
Will expand economic security consultations (launched last year), with the second round scheduled for this autumn.
Focus areas include supply chain resilience and joint responses to global economic challenges.
Indo-Pacific & Euro-Atlantic Security Linkage:
Japan welcomed Germany’s continued engagement in the Indo-Pacific through naval deployments.
Both sides stressed that security in the Indo-Pacific is directly tied to Europe’s security environment.
Institutional Cooperation:
Pledged to boost activities of the Japan-Germany Forum and the Japanese-German Center in Berlin.
Exchanged views on Ukraine, Indo-Pacific developments, and the Middle East/Africa.
Reaffirmed commitment to UN reform, including Security Council modernization.
