Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council and Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan declared on Saturday that there will be 'no negotiation or compromise with those who have attacked the Sudanese people.'
In his Eid al-Fitr address to the nation, al-Burhan vowed that the armed forces and allied troops would continue their battle against 'rebellion and the elimination of the terrorist Dagalo militia' - a clear reference to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
He emphasized the military's equal distance from all citizens, urging those in rebel-controlled areas to withdraw support from the RSF. 'This war has entered its third year, inflicting the worst damage on our nation and people... We will neither forgive, compromise, negotiate, nor retreat from avenging our martyrs' blood,' al-Burhan stated.
While asserting that 'the path to peace remains open,' he condemned the suffering of civilians in RSF-held areas as 'unacceptable,' demanding the militia lay down arms or face continued conflict.
Al-Burhan expressed gratitude to Sudan's allies and international organizations supporting government efforts to preserve national unity and stability, though noting reconstruction requires more work.
Military Context: On March 21, Sudanese army forces regained control of the Presidential Palace and central Khartoum after fierce battles against the RSF. The conflict since April 2023 has reportedly killed thousands and displaced over 14 million people, per UN and local estimates.
